ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY
Relate Guernsey originally started as the Guernsey branch of the Marriage Guidance Council in 1948/49. Forty years later – in 1988 – the charity was re branded nationally to Relate, as the charity evolved into a modern, thriving organisation providing innovative responses to the needs of the community that we serve.
Relate now serves as an adult Relationship Counselling Service which supports couples and individuals regardless of their sexuality, background or financial circumstances. Our main focus remains rooted in relationship issues.
Evidence demonstrates that we enable clients to explore these issues in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment with appropriately and professionally trained counsellors.
Relate Guernsey enables clients to make informed choices about their future, we assist and support our clients through whichever process they decide upon. We feel our work is especially important where children are involved.
We also support clients experiencing domestic violence and abuse. Our service offers a safe environment to explore and amend behaviours. We also support people who may have issues resulting from past abuse, poor health and long-term illnesses such as dementia, depression and anxiety.
Relate’s services are invaluable, on account of the wide range of social, physical and psychological issues that can have an impact upon relationships.
We have been helping local people with their relationships for over 70 years. Not only that, but the charity is the largest provider of relationship support within the Bailiwick!
Our Relationship Help pages offer practical tips, guides and videos to help you manage common relationship issues such as sex, separation and divorce, and parenting. Whatever the issue, we can help.
You can be assured that our counsellors are fully trained in the UK to national standards and receive regular supervision and support throughout their training and practice.
